STEAM-CON Postponed

We are hopeful that the third time will be the charm for our inaugural STEAM-CON!

After two attempts to debut this community gathering in 2026, we have decided to wait until 2027 when we can all celebrate the passing of this particularly devastating storm year.

We are seeing one major silver lining in these setbacks: there have been invaluable community connections made this year.

For ASC, having multiple chances to develop the STEAM-CON concept is allowing us to discover, and subsequently celebrate, more and more genius existing around us. It is precisely what we set out to do and, wow, is it impressive!

Regionally, these back-to-back extreme weather events have emboldened neighbors to support each other and inspired grass roots organizations to rise to the occasions.

Feeling empowered to develop our own unique contributions, creating pathways to collaborate with one another, developing deeper relationships with our neighbors, celebrating each others' genius, and rising to the occasion. If you ask us at ASC, this is precisely where our focus needs to be in these times.

Beyond School Clubs

Our Beyond School Clubs are off to a great start!

We get a lot of questions about Garden and Theater Club. Currently we are still in the process of assembling a team a facilitators for these clubs, but we are encouraging folks to register with an expressed interest and we'll keep you updated if they form up!

We are excited to have a HAAS Alum facilitating Academic Support Monday-Thursday from 2:30-4:30. Feel free to drop in!

In the past few weeks, our new Trades & Traditions Club has explored weaving with coconut fronds, chiseling ulu maika for Makahiki season, and carving fish hooks out of bone. This club is accepting new students from middle and high school grades.

Campus Development

ASC has spent much of its 23 years as a quiet support for HAAS Public Charter School and its families. And while we continue to prioritize the support HAAS, we also want to prioritize supporting our wider community of all ages.

So as we progress toward our Master Plan, we are driven to distinguish ourselves as a separate entity and not one that is synonymous with HAAS.

Driving by campus you'll have noticed a lot of changes as ASC lays the literal foundation for our expansion into community-based education. And soon you'll also be seeing a beautiful sign custom engineered by Moe's Metal Shop just for us!

A Note from Shelby Smith (Project/Property Manager ASC)

It was a busy summer of changes on the main ASC property. In coordination with HAAS, we have moved a number of assets off the south side of the property, setting us up to be able to put in place components for the Master Plan grading which should begin later 2026.

Just in the nick of time, before Lala paid us a visit, we removed the last row of large Ironwood trees along post office road. While it's always sad to see older trees removed, these ones were a fall hazard for both our roadway, our main access, as well as for our power lines.

We are also wrapping up the first phase of major drainage development for the property so you will have seen a large rock pile in the middle of the site from the highway, that work is wrapping up and then we will begin grading of about 12 acres of the property in the fall to establish the roadways and building pads for the Phase 1 and Phase 2 development of the master plan.
