Taking place on 3.14 (Pi Day!) STEAM-CON is a FREE, hands-on community celebration of local arts, sciences, and culture - done Puna style!
Yes, there will be serious thinkers.
Yes, there will be beautiful art.
And yes… there will be pie.
You’re fully encouraged (but certainly not required) to come in costume! Bust out all the Steampunk flair you never get to wear, embody your favorite scientist, beloved element, or creative invention. Let your imagination run wild and surround yourself with the innovation and ʻike unique to Hawaiʻi Island.
Here's what we have planned for you:
• Demonstration booths and hands on creation stations for ALL ages to geek out on
• Immerse into audio, visual and experiential installations designed to fire up your neurons
• Enjoy short, dynamic presentations from local artists, scientists, engineers, and cultural practitioners
• Wander through a fine art gallery and catch roving performers and musicians
• Celebrate Pi Day with a community pie share, open mic pi recital, and a lighthearted costume contest to satisfy the competitive streak in all of us
• See your favorite local artists, scientists and engineers presentations and featured exhibitions
• Enjoy 'ono grinds from our new campus imu installed as a tribute to Steve Hirakami, functioning as a steam-powered example of indigenous science in practice!
As ASC’s first annual STEAM-Con, this event marks the continuation of ASCʻs commitment to celebrating the creativity and ingenuity of our community. Come celebrate the scientists asking bold questions, the engineers solving real-world problems, the artists feeding our souls, the farmers nourishing our bodies, and the math whizzes who appreciate the rhythm of the universe. This is a gathering for the critical & creative, the protégé & prodigy, the keiki & the kumu.
Come curious.
Come inspired.
Come nerd out (even a little).
